Sunday, October 12, it is time again for the 4 Miles of Groningen . Everyone has naturally trained well and is standing at the start well prepared. To help you prepare even better, we have a few handy tips for you!
Outfit
On Saturday, prepare your clothing and equipment for Sunday. Take into account the different weather conditions. If you only start gathering your things on Sunday, you may miss something due to the tension of the competition!
Food
Eat normally on Sunday, as you normally do. A normal breakfast and a normal lunch. You can eat normally up to 2 hours before the start, after that you shouldn't eat too much. A banana or energy bar is still okay.

Warm up
Make sure you warm up properly before you enter the starting area. You can also do some exercise and moves in the starting area, so that you are warmed up at the start.
Clothing
Before the race you can drop off your clothes in one of the clothing carts. In order not to cool down before the race, it is useful to put on an old sweater or an old shirt over your race shirt. Before you start running you can throw these aside. These shirts will be collected later for a good cause! What also works well is a garbage bag. You will also stay nice and warm in this!
Starting box
Find a good spot in the starting area. The faster runners are in the front of the area, the slower runners are in the back of the area. It is nice for yourself to choose a good spot, so that you run between equal runners, where you can pull yourself up.
Time
Don't be tempted to start too fast. Many people do this at the 4 Miles! Set your own pace right away. If you notice halfway that you are doing well, you always have the option to speed up.
drink
A little over halfway there is a drink station. At a distance of 6,4 kilometers this is not really necessary. But if you are very hot, the water is handy to throw over you.
Last mile
The last kilometre starts at the railway. Try not to accelerate up the viaduct, but rather at the top. This requires less strength and is easier to maintain down. When you enter the Herestraat it is still 500 metres. If you still feel good here you can try to accelerate.
To enjoy!
You may have a hard time along the way, but try to enjoy it too.
