Advice on fitting running shoes
We fit running shoes using our gait analysis. If you plan to start running, it is essential to ensure that the experience is smooth, that you enjoy it, and that you avoid injuries. The first step? Choosing the right shoes. At RunX running store, we are always ready to offer advice to help you find the perfect running shoe, for men , women , and children alike. Although all shoes in our stores are of high quality, it is about which running shoe suits you best, for both running and walking. That is why every shoe is specifically tailored to your situation.
We do this using a comprehensive RunX gait analysis . Your physical capacity is central to our measurement, and the crucial question is: how much can your body physically handle? In our advice, we focus not only on your feet and legs but study your entire body. Furthermore, we delve into your goals and personal story. By combining this information with our expertise, we can determine the most suitable shoe for you and fit you with the perfect running shoes.
Our approach to finding the right running shoe focuses on resilience. How much your body can tolerate depends on a number of factors, including your running experience, goals and physical condition.
In a gait analysis when fitting custom running shoes, we look at:
1. Running history
What is your running experience and how well trained are you? What kind of training do you follow and how often do you train per week? Do you usually run on hard or soft surfaces? In short, your story is essential for us to get a complete picture for the advice on running shoes.
2. Target
Your goal and background as a runner will determine which shoe is best for you when fitting running shoes. Are you aiming for a 5K run, or are you aiming to run a marathon? Maybe your goal is less specific, such as getting fitter or working on your overall health.
3. Body
We obtain information about your body by starting with a foot scan of your bare feet. This allows us to accurately analyze the pressure points and the distribution of pressure under your foot. After the foot scan, we use a (high-speed) camera to make video images, with which we visualize your running technique and the load capacity of your (lower) legs, including ankles.
Aspects we evaluate during a running analysis and advice for fitting running shoes:
• A) By examining your bare feet, we analyze the pressure points, pressure distribution, width, length, and instep height. We also ask about any foot problems to get a complete picture for sound advice on running shoes.
• B) Your body weight plays a major role, along with your running style, in the load placed on your running shoes. At an average pace, the impact load can be two to three times your body weight. A good balance between body weight and cushioning in the shoe is crucial, as both too little and too much cushioning can lead to discomfort. Your running speed, personal preference, and the surface you run on are also taken into account when advising on fitting running shoes.
• C) Your injury history is important. We take into account injuries or abnormalities that may affect load capacity when providing advice.
• D) We look at the position of your lower legs, including your ankle joint, knees, and the angle between the hip, knee, and ankle (Q-angle).
• E) Overall body posture is a focal point. We observe your body posture while running on our indoor test tracks or treadmill.
• F) Your running technique is of great importance. A good technique improves your load capacity while running. In our RunX running stores, we also evaluate your running technique and provide you with simple tips and advice to improve it. Furthermore, we can advise you on local running groups, athletics clubs, and personal trainers who can guide you in working on your technique and fitness.
