Running is a beautiful sport: its diversity means that almost everyone can run. Whether you are an endurance runner, a trail runner, or just starting out with a 5K. You are working on improving your performance, so read on for a few tips to get more out of your running training.
If you want to challenge yourself and improve your performance, you will need to do varied training. After all: if you do what you always did, you will get what you always got. Of course, it is good to do a nice endurance run every now and then at a distance that you know you can easily maintain. But also try the tips below to add some more variety:
- Improve your running performance with strength training
Strength training can help you improve your running performance. Strong leg and arm muscles and good core stability are important! Replace your running training with squats, lunges, glute bridges and dead bugs. Watch videos of these exercises, and more, on this page: https://runx.nl/oefeningen/krachttraining/
- Try running drills
To make your running technique more efficient, you can do running drills. These drills are a form of training in athletics and are extremely good for your coordination. Do these running drills after your warm-up, but before the core part of your training. And beginners: pay attention to the use of your arms. View all running drills in handy explanation videos on this page: https://runx.nl/oefeningen/loopscholing/

- Always listen to your body
Whatever you do during your training, always listen to your body. The most common mistake made by beginning runners is starting at too high a speed. Make sure that you run at a pace that you can still have a conversation. That way you know for sure that you are not overloading your body. And don't try to completely change your running technique all of a sudden. An unnatural roll of the forefoot can lead to overuse injuries. Try out what works for you!
- Motivate yourself with a running schedule
Do you already run a few kilometers regularly and do you want to take it a step further? On this page you will find various running schedules for 5 kilometers, 10 kilometers, half marathon (21,1 km) and even a marathon schedule. When following a running schedule, you gradually build up your running condition and have a clear goal in mind. Feel free to ask our RunX employees if you need more information! Have fun & run! Make sure you dress appropriately (for example by wearing layers to dress) and wear a comfortable running shoe. Do you need advice? Contact a RunX store near you, our employees are happy to help you.
