Running analysis for running at RunX: more than a measurement

At RunX, we have our own philosophy regarding advising on the right running shoes . The basis of this philosophy is load capacity. Simply put: how much can your body handle? To determine which running shoe suits you best, we conduct a comprehensive running gait analysis and want to learn more about you.

It is not necessary to make an appointment at one of our branches.

How does RunX running gait analysis work?

When you go running, you want it to be easy, fun, and injury-free. Step one? Suitable shoes. At running store RunX, we are always ready to fit you with the best running shoe . All shoes in our stores are of good quality, but what matters is which running or walking shoes (for both men and women ) suit *you* well. That is why the shoe is fitted based on your specific situation.

We investigate this with the extensive RunX running analysis. Your resilience is central to our measurement and the most important question is: how much can your body physically handle? We do not only look at your feet and legs, but at the entire body. In addition, we delve into your goals and your personal story. This information in combination with our knowledge enables us to determine the most suitable shoe for you.

Load capacity is the most important concept in our philosophy regarding the custom running shoe suitable for you . How load-bearing you can handle depends on various factors: running history, goal, and body.

1

Running history

How much experience do you have as a runner and how well trained are you? What kind of training do you do and how often do you train per week? What is the surface you usually run on? In short, your story is of great importance to us to get the complete picture.
2

Goal

Your running goal and your story influence your choice of shoe. Are you going for 5 km, or do you want to run a marathon? Maybe your goal is less concrete: do you just want to feel fitter or work on your health?
3

Body

We obtain the information about your body by starting with a foot scan of your bare feet during our running gait analysis. This allows us to clearly visualize the pressure points and pressure distribution under your foot. After the foot scan, we use a (high-speed) camera to make video images that show your running technique and the load capacity of your (lower) legs (including ankles).

Aspects we look at during a running analysis

A) Using your bare feet , we examine the pressure points and pressure distribution of your foot. We also look at the width, length, and instep height, and ask about any foot problems.

B) What's your body weight?
Your body weight and running style have a big influence on the load of your running shoe. At an average pace, the shock load is two to three times your own body weight and both too little and too much cushioning can lead to complaints. You can imagine that good coordination between body weight and cushioning in the shoe is very important. Your running speed, personal preference and the surface you run on are also important for the advice and the right shoe choice. We take all this into account in our running analysis for running.

C) Any injury history is also important. When providing advice, we take into account injuries or abnormalities that could affect your load-bearing capacity.

D) The position of your lower legs . We look at your ankle joint, your knees, and the hip-knee-ankle angle (Q-angle).

E) The entire body posture . We look at the position of the body while running on our indoor test tracks or treadmill.

F) Your running technique . A good running technique allows you to handle the load better while running. In the RunX stores, we also look at your running technique during the gait analysis, and you can start working on improving your technique with relatively simple tips. Additionally, we can advise you on local running groups, athletics clubs, and personal trainers to work on your technique and fitness under guidance.
