Warm, dry and comfortable running. Isn't that what every runner wants? Delivering a physical performance requires enough energy, you don't want to worry about your clothing as well. The three-layer clothing system ensures that you can optimally protect yourself against changing conditions. The basis? Sports underwear!

Clothing should help you with your sports performance: cooling through perspiration, insulation against the cold and protection against rain and wind. There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing. The three-layer clothing system works as follows:
- Base layer: keeps the skin free from moisture
- Middle layer: insulates
- Protective layer: keeps out wind and rain
Sports underwear
Keeping the skin free of moisture is what sports underwear does. This first layer is important; if it does not function properly, it will also affect the rest of your sports outfit. The base layer is worn directly on your skin and is important for absorbing and removing perspiration. In addition, the base layer also regulates your body heat. In order to regulate body temperature, the human body has the ability to sweat. To ensure that your moisture absorption, moisture transport and heat regulation are optimal, we recommend sports underwear as a base layer.
Base layer material
Commonly used materials and fibres in sports underwear are polyester and polypropylene. These are functional fibres that retain little or no moisture and ensure good drainage of perspiration. This is in contrast to cotton, which absorbs moisture well but does not drain it well. Cotton works like a sponge; it absorbs a lot of moisture and only starts to drain moisture when the fibre is completely saturated. The result is that clothing becomes heavy and that you have a great chance of cooling down. In addition, there is no, or only poor, moisture transport to the layers of clothing that you wear over it. You get the best effect if you wear sports underwear as close to the skin as possible. So the size and fit are essential. It must be functional and it must be comfortable. We therefore strongly recommend that you try on underwear and adjust it to your body.
To choose the right sports underwear, the following points are important:
- Where do you walk? Sheltered between the buildings in the city or in the polder or on the beach?
- Are you constantly moving during your training or do you also stand still for exercises?
- Do you get warm quickly, do you sweat quickly and a lot? Or are you a chilly person and do you benefit from underwear that keeps you warm?
- Do you only use your sports underwear for running or do you also participate in other sports, such as cycling, skating, walking, football or other field sports?
Align the layers
It is important that you coordinate your clothing layers. The base layer is therefore sports underwear. On top of that, depending on the weather conditions and the type of training or competition, you wear a second functional layer aimed at further moisture transport and/or protection. Protection for the upper body is often a jacket, vest or body warmer with properties such as windproof, water-repellent and breathable. Are the conditions more extreme? Then choose a waterproof and breathable jacket.
